Finally, the uncertainty in creating a cleanliness specification is over! This is a significant step for everyone involved in the cleanliness of components. A uniform and reliable approach will finally be available, and specifications such as "grease-free, stain-free, dry" can become a thing of the past.
After more than four years of intensive work in the working committee NA062-01-81AA of DIN, the committee finalized the manuscript for the draft standard DIN 4878-1 "Component Cleaning and Technical Cleanliness – Part 1: Procedures for Deriving and Creating a Cleanliness Specification" during the meeting on October 29-30 in Berlin. After editorial completion by DIN, this draft is expected to be published on January 23, 2026, in the Draft Standard Portal (https://www.din.de/de/mitwirken/entwuerfe).
