We are very pleased about the publication of a new paper by our FRei members Linda Steinhäußer and Gaby Gotzmann titled “Plasma-treated liquids as an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional disinfectants for the hygienization of food processing facilities – first insights in shelf life characteristics and antibacterial efficacy.” The paper was published in the journal "Food and Bioproducts Processing."
In previous publications, the effect of plasma-treated liquids (PTL) has already been presented, and their significance as disinfectants has been researched. PTL are produced from saline solution and ionized water through treatment with an arc-discharge plasma jet. Due to reactive nitrogen and oxygen species, they exhibit antimicrobial properties. However, there are still few studies on the effectiveness of freshly produced or stored PTLs regarding their use as surface disinfectants.
