DIN-4878

At long last, the uncertainty when creating a cleanliness specification is a thing of the past! A major step forward for everyone who must deal with component cleanliness. Finally, there will be a uniform and reliable approach, and specifications like "free of grease, spot-free, dry" could become an issue of the past.

After more than 4 years of intensive work in the DIN working committee NA062-01-81AA, the committee finalized the draft standard manuscript DIN 48878-1 "Component Cleaning and Technical Cleanliness – Part 1: Methods for the Derivation and Creation of a Cleanliness Specification" at the October 2025 meeting. After editorial completion at DIN, the draft was published in the Draft Standards Portal in January of this year and was available for feedback and comments.

But what's next? On May 6 and 7, there was a hybrid objection session in Berlin. Objections and comments from the draft standard were addressed, and joint solutions were developed in the working committee. Currently, the final editing is being carried out by the German Institute for Standardization (DIN). FRei member Frank-Holm Rögner is also a member of the working committee and was involved in the revision.

The publication of the final version is already planned for summer 2026. Follow us on our social media channels to not miss any updates!
